Thank you for this article. At 28 weeks pregnant I went to the hospital with spotting and contractions; they stopped, though, and the nurses sent me home after a quick ultrasound. I was a first time mother, I felt I was disregarded because of my inexperience but I knew something was wrong.

A week later I drove myself to the hospital in the middle of the night with contractions 2 minutes apart and my baby was born a few hours later. He spent 10 weeks in the NICU. He suffered a brain bleed which will affect him for the rest of his life, along with a slew of other issues in the NICU.

There is no known reason for his early birth, but I've always wondered what would have happened if I'd stood up for myself, if I'd insisted something was wrong the first time I went to the hospital and not let them send me away. It's hard to know when to trust a medical professional and when to fight back. I'm so glad your daughter is doing well, and thank you again for shedding light on an important subject.
