Remember the fluffy little chicks I wrote about back in May? I’m happy to announce they’ve grown up past the suicide watch stage. I meant to write a lot more as they grew but alas, I got busy working on a few fun freelance projects over the summer and spent less time writing for myself.

Better late than never though, right?

Two to Six Weeks Old

We started taking our chicks out for little outside adventures when they were about two weeks old. They pecked at everything, were scared of everything, and were pretty much confused most of the time!

We took great delight in experimenting with bugs to feed them. I sent our youngest boys to go look under rocks for worms, rolly-pollies, and whatever else they could find, and we all watched the chicks to see what they would do.

Ladybugs were a hard no from the girls. Ants are acceptable, and even when the girls were pretty young they could grab even little ants with surprising precision. The girls gobbled up flies and rolly-pollies too.

Worms were in high demand, although they didn’t eat them! They grabbed them and then ran around with slimy fu manchus, chasing each other and snatching the worm away from each other when they got close enough. The poor worms…
