I tried the Maffetone method for a few months. Like you, I did see results, but it was slow. I mean, really, really slow! I got up to being able to run about 11 minute miles without my HR going over 135. Maybe I could have gotten faster if I'd stuck with it longer, I just got too frustrated. Great article!
