I set an income goal for myself last year and barely made it halfway. Some of this was because of projects I accepted, and some of it was because of poor boundaries and low value of myself.

So when December rolled around, and the final dollar count for the year made its dismal appearance, I took a hard look at the projects I was accepting, the rates I was charging, and how I was managing my time.

I decided it was time to ditch the imposter syndrome, raise my rates again, and go after the projects I wanted to work on.

Finding new sources of income

I have had pretty decent luck finding clients on Upwork and have earned over $15k on the platform, so I started applying to jobs. I focused on jobs that looked like they would turn into long-term relationships.

One-time jobs are a ton of work. You have to onboard your client, get to know their style, and learn their voice and expectations. If it’s just a quick project, I’ve found it’s usually not worth the time and energy spent onboarding.
